- Acute Deep Vein Thrombosis Dangerous blood clot formation in deep veins, typically in legs, that can potentially break loose and cause life-threatening complications like pulmonary embolism.

Dr. Karthik Mikkineni is an internationally recognized Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon and Head of Vascular Surgery at RIVEA Vascular Institute, Hyderabad. He is known for his pioneering work in complex aortic interventions, limb salvage, and carotid disease management.

Formerly Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, Dr. Mikkineni led major advancements in patient care, surgical innovation, and physician training. At Stanford, he helped establish the Community Academic Practice (CAP) and Advanced Aortic Center, expanding access to advanced vascular care and setting benchmarks in outpatient surgery and hybrid OR programs. He has led national training initiatives, secured NIH and AHA research grants, and contributed significantly to advances in aortic aneurysm management.
Dr. Mikkineni completed his Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency at Allegheny General Hospital, Temple & Drexel College of Medicine, under the 0+5 track, a highly specialized pathway focusing solely on vascular and endovascular surgery. He remains the only Indian graduate of this competitive training program. His training also includes an internship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical College.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the Society for Vascular Surgery (FSVS), he is among an elite group of vascular specialists worldwide, with research that has influenced global treatment guidelines. His research on aortic aneurysm biomechanics and rupture prediction models has received international acclaim, influencing clinical guidelines and surgical best practices.
At RIVEA Vascular Institute, Dr. Mikkineni’s vision is clear: to redefine vascular care in India, merging minimally invasive endovascular treatments with the highest level of open surgical expertise. Under his leadership, RIVEA will be the first in India to introduce Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR), alongside advanced fenestrated and branched aortic endografts (FEVAR, EVAR, TEVAR). His commitment extends beyond surgery—to mentorship, research, and building a sustainable model for world-class vascular care in India.
Dr. Syed Mohammed Ali Ahmed

Dr. Syed Mohammed Ali Ahmed is a vascular surgeon with over 12 years of experience, trained at some of India’s leading institutions. He completed his M.S. in General Surgery at Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, and earned his M.Ch. in Vascular Surgery in 2022 from Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai Medical College, Tamil Nadu. He further refined his expertise through an international fellowship at Ng Teng Fong Hospital, Singapore (2023–24), earning the FVS (Singapore) qualification.
Dr. Syed Mohammed Ali Ahmed

Dr. Ali is among the few surgeons in India with dedicated expertise in lymphatic disease surgery. He has particular proficiency in complex aortic surgery—both open and endovascular—as well as carotid disease surgery and advanced limb salvage for trauma and chronic occlusive disease. He has served as Consultant Vascular Surgeon at AIG Hospitals and Medicover Hospitals, Hyderabad, managing a wide spectrum of complex vascular cases. In 2024, he represented India at the Vascular Surgery Annual Meet in the United States, presenting a series of lymphoedema cases.

Dr. Suresh Reddy Thupakula is a Consultant Vascular & General Surgeon with advanced training in both open and endovascular vascular surgery. He completed his MBBS in 2009, followed by DNB in General Surgery in 2015, and earned his DrNB in Vascular Surgery in 2021 from Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, one of India’s premier tertiary care centers for complex vascular disease.
He has served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in Vascular Surgery at NRI Medical College, contributing to surgical training and academic development. His clinical approach emphasizes meticulous evaluation, evidence-based planning, and durable long-term outcomes for patients with complex vascular conditions.
